Davenport, FL: The Saint John's University (MN) baseball team came back to defeat Ramapo College, 10-1 in the Roadrunners (7-5 overall) final game at The Russ Matt Invitational. The Johnnies improve to 9-4 on the season.
The Roadrunners led 1-0 after the top of the third inning when
Julian Schultz lifted a sac fly to left field which allowed
Braden Schappert to score. The Johnnies scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-1 lead before adding two in the sixth and one in the eighth. The fifth inning was highlighted with an inside the park grand slam off the bat of Riley Schwellenbach. In the sixth, Mason McCurdy drove in two with a two-RBI single to extend the lead, 9-1. In the eighth inning McCurdy bounced into a 6-4-3 double play which allowed Owen Amrhein to score, 10-1. Max Edwards (3-0) earned the win on the mound for the Johnnies as he struck out nine, walked two and surrendered just two hits and one unearned run.
James Kahn (1-1) struck out six, walked six and let up four hits and six unearned runs in 4.2 innings of work for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo returns to action on Sunday, March 22nd when they travel to St. Joseph's University Long Island for a non-conference double header starting at 12 PM.
