Kissimmee, FL: The Ramapo College softball team defeated Endicott College today in the bottom of the seventh, 4-3. The Roadrunners remain undefeated at 7-0 overall while the Gulls drop to 2-4 on the year.
Ramapo saw themselves down 2-0 after the Gulls came to bat in the top of the first inning. The Roadrunners scored one run in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half. With one out,
Kori Gargiulo doubled to left field before
Avery Kontura walked to put two runners on base.
Hannah Hensler ripped the first pitch she saw for an RBI single through the left side of the infield which allowed Gargiulo to score. In the top of the second, Abby McClafin drove in Maddie Beeley with an RBI single to extend the Gulls lead, 3-1.
Lia Milsom worked a two-out walk in the bottom of the second inning before Clay'le Correa-Vanness put down a bunt single. Gargiulo then drove in Milsom with an RBI single to right field to cut the lead to one once again. Neither team would scratch a run across in the next three innings before the game was halted due to a rain delay in the bottom of the sixth for an hour and forty-five minutes. When play resumed the Roadrunners got the game-tying run to third base before the Gulls ended the inning with a strikeout to preserve their one run lead. Ramapo relief pitcher
Brooke Knight and the defense worked a 1-2-3 top of the seventh. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Hensler belted a double to straight away center field before the Gulls induced a line-out to center field for the second out of the inning.
Aimee Notaro was hit by a pitch before
Paley Sullivan laced an RBI single to center field which allowed Hensler to come around to score the game-tying run. The Gulls made a pitching change before
Emily Ehrmann worked a walk to load the bases with two outs. Milsom stepped into the batter's box for her at bat before Notaro was able to race home and score on a wild pitch for the 4-3 walk-off win.
Knight (2-0) earned the win in relief for the Roadrunners as she struck out two, walked none and let up just one hit in the final four innings of action.
Mikayla McJilton started in the circle as she scattered five hits while letting up three runs (one earned) in three innings of play. Ramapo collected eight hits as a team as Correa-Vanness, Gargiulo and Hensler each posted two each.
