Throggs Neck, NY: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Maritime College tonight on the road, 6-3. The Roadrunners improve to 6-1 overall while the Privateers drop to 0-6 on the year.
The Roadrunners saw themselves down 3-0 after the first inning before they took the lead in the top of the second scoring five runs.
Nick Pellegrino and
Dan Maglio recorded back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners with no outs.
Eric Knapp then drove in Pellegrino with an RBI single as Maglio advanced to second. With one out,
Will Egner worked a walk to load the bases before
Braden Schappert belted a grand slam over the left-center field wall for a 5-3 lead.
Jack Tallent hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to push the score 6-3.
Michael Zalinkanskas (2-0) earned the win on the mound in relief for Ramapo. He struck out 11, walked four and surrendered just one hit over 6.2 innings of work.
Thomas Schlaline earned the two-inning save as he struck out six and walked one and gave up just one hit. The Roadrunners were led by Tallent and Maglio at the plate as they each finished 2-4 with one run scored while Tallent posted one RBI. Schappert, who recorded his first collegiate grand slam, posted four RBI.
The Roadrunners will now travel to the Russ Matt Baseball Invitational in Florida as they open up play on Saturday, March 14th in a game against Ripon College at 1pm.
