BARLOW MATCHES CAREER HIGH OF 26 POINTS IN LOSS AT NJCU

Jersey City, NJ: The New Jersey City University men's basketball team outlasted Ramapo College tonight, 65-57. The Gothic Knights improve to 12-7 overall and 8-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 4-13 overall and 3-7 in the league.

The Gothic Knights took a ten-point lead into halftime, 37-27. Ramapo opened the second half by going on an 8-2 run. Elijah Barlow and Orion Mickens each scored four points during the run to cut the NJCU lead to four with just over 17 minutes on the clock. NJCU answered with a mini 5-0 run from Bakh Rogers-Robinson as he tallied a layup and three-pointer which stretched their lead to nine, 44-39. Ramapo once again closed the gap to four with a three-pointer from Tyrell Murchison which started a 5-0 run of their own, capped off with a pair of free throws from Enoch Hutchinson. With just over 14 minutes remaining in the game NJCU led, 44-40. The two teams battled over the next four minutes as NJCU pushed their lead back to ten with a basket from Matt McSorley, 54-44 (9:53). Barlow and Donovan Crawford traded three-pointers before a jumper from Nahum Lewis started an 8-2 run which cut the Gothic Knight lead to four once again 59-54 with 4:13 remaining. The Ramapo run included back-to-back three-pointers from Murchison and Lewis. NJCU finished the game on a 6-2 run to hold off the Ramapo comeback.

NJCU was led by Rogers-Robinson who tallied 17 points while Brince Shelton posted 13 points and Crawford collected 12 points and a team high seven rebounds. The Gothic Knights shot 42% (28-66) from the field, 30% (4-13) from the three-point line and 55% (5-9) from the free throw line.

Barlow led the Roadrunners as he matched his career high of 26 points. He finished 11-16 from the field, 2-4 from the three-line and 2-2 from the free throw line. Barlow added seven rebounds, three assists and one steal. Murchison added 10 points, four assists, two steals and three rebounds. Mickens led the team with 11 rebounds while adding six points. Lewis contributed with nine points, two rebounds and two assists. Ramapo shot 47% (24-51) from the field, 38% (5-13) from the three-point line and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 24th when they travel to Rutgers-Camden University for a NJAC game at 3:00 PM.
