Mahwah, NJ: The Rowan University men's basketball team outscored Ramapo College today at the Bradley Center in NJAC action, 104-75. The Profs move to 3-11 overall and 3-4 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 3-11 overall and 2-5 in the league.
Ramapo opened up a nine-point lead in the first half as Enoch Hutchison sank a three-pointer to extend the lead, 11-2 with 15:02 on the clock. Rowan cut the lead to two with 12:34 on the clock before the Roadrunners stretched the lead back to nine, 26-17, with 9:02 left to play. Rowan then went on a 17-1 run that included back-to-back three-pointers from Michael Pirone and CJ Hayes to give them a 32-27 lead (5:42). A pair of free throws extended the lead 34-27 before
Orion Mickens scored on a layup for Ramapo. Taz Cantey and Hayes scored back-to-back baskets for the Profs for a nine-point lead before Ramapo closed the gap to four. A three-pointer from Hutchison and a two-point basket from
Jalen Thomas shrunk the Prof lead to 38-34 with less than three minutes left in the half. Rowan closed out the half on a 10-2 run for a 12-point lead at halftime, 48-36. The Profs held a double-digit lead through the second half and took their biggest lead with 2:26 remaining on a pair of made free throws from Hayes, 102-68.
Four players scored in double figures for Rowan as they were led by Hayes who posted 31 points including finishing 4-4 from the three-point line, 11-12 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line. Pirone posted 20 points while Cantey contributed with 14 points and Kahlil Baker posted 10 points and six rebounds. The team shot 58% (39-67) from the field, 40% (10-25) from the three-point line and 80% (16-20) from the free throw line. The Profs scored 29 points off of Ramapo's 20 turnovers.
For the Roadrunners,
Orion Mickens led the way with a career high 14 points while he added nine rebounds. Thomas posted 14 points while Hutchinson added 12 points including two made three-pointers, two steals and six rebounds. Ramapo shot 50% (29-58) from the field, 25% (3-12) from the three-point line and 70% (14-20) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on the road on January 14th when they travel to William Paterson University at 7:30pm.
