West Hartford, CT: The University of Saint Joseph field hockey team used a late run to defeat Ramapo College today in non-conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 2-1 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-1 on the year.
Grace Kociszewski scored her first of two goals in the game with 10:13 on the clock to put the Blue Jays on the board. Aurelia Barker recorded the assist. Isabella Pellitier made it a 2-0 game in the 16th minute of action before Ramapo's
Allison Tanasy scored her first goal of the season in the 19th minute off a pass from
Victoria Chavez to cut the USJ lead in half. The Roadrunner's second goal came at the end of the second period as
Kelly Zeman scored her first collegiate goal of her career to tie the game heading into halftime, 2-2.
In the third, Kociszewski and Barker each netted a goal for the Blue Jays to take a 4-2 lead before their final goal came in the fourth period off the stick of Juliana Meglio, 5-2. Ramapo's
Ana Plaia posted her second goal of the season with an unassisted goal in the 55th minute of action. The Blue Jays would hold the Roadrunners in the final five minute of play to secure the 5-3 non-conference victory.
Ramapo recorded 16 shots in the game including 11 on goal while the Blue Jays posted 17 shots with 12 on goal.
Sam Fried tallied six saves for the Roadrunners in the first 45 minutes of action while
Emily Getz recorded one save in the final 15 minutes. For USJ, Jaci Feliz-Hull collected eight saves in the game, including four in the final 15 minutes of play to keep Ramapo from tying or taking the lead.
Ramapo returns to action on September 10th when they travel to Save College for a non-conference game starting at 6:00 PM.Â
