RAMAPO ADVANCES IN NCAA SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT WITH 5-0 WIN

Gettysburg, PA:  The #2 seeded Ramapo College softball team advanced in the NCAA Gettysburg Regional with a 5-0 shutout over #4 seeded John Jay College (30-11). The Roadrunners (32-10) move to 32-10 overall and will take on the #3 MIT Engineers in an elimination game at 1:00pm.

The Roadrunners scored all five runs in the first inning to take a quick 5-0 lead. Three straight walks to Katie Rygiel, Alex Hastings and Kori Gargiulo loaded the bases with no outs for Avery Kontura. Kontura drew a walk to pick up the RBI as Rygiel touched home plate for the 1-0 lead. Otero then ripped a double into the left-center field gap to plate Hastings before Sophia Diaz knocked in a run with an RBI groundout. Hannah Hensler lifted a sac fly to center field to plate Otero for the 5-0 lead.

Ramapo held the Bloodhounds the remainder of the game to advance in the NCAA tournament. Kassy Stefanski (11-2) earned the win with four strikeouts and one walk while she surrendered two hits in five innings of work.
