Gettysburg, PA: The #2 seeded Ramapo College softball team advanced in the NCAA Gettysburg Regional with a 5-0 shutout over #4 seeded John Jay College (30-11). The Roadrunners (32-10) move to 32-10 overall and will take on the #3 MIT Engineers in an elimination game at 1:00pm.
The Roadrunners scored all five runs in the first inning to take a quick 5-0 lead. Three straight walks to
Katie Rygiel,
Alex Hastings and
Kori Gargiulo loaded the bases with no outs for
Avery Kontura. Kontura drew a walk to pick up the RBI as Rygiel touched home plate for the 1-0 lead. Otero then ripped a double into the left-center field gap to plate Hastings before
Sophia Diaz knocked in a run with an RBI groundout.
Hannah Hensler lifted a sac fly to center field to plate Otero for the 5-0 lead.
Ramapo held the Bloodhounds the remainder of the game to advance in the NCAA tournament.
Kassy Stefanski (11-2) earned the win with four strikeouts and one walk while she surrendered two hits in five innings of work.
Brooke Knight came in to close out the game in the final two innings where she struck out two, walked none and scattered three hits.
