Gettysburg, PA: The Ramapo College softball team scored early and held on for their second NCAA Tournament win with a 7-3 victory over MIT (29-12). The #2 Roadrunners (33-10) earned a trip to the NCAA Regional Final at 4pm this afternoon against #1 Gettysburg College.
Ramapo loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first inning before an error from the Engineers led to the game's first run for a 1-0 lead. Back-to-back walks forced home two more runs before
Rebecca Airel laced a single to center field which allowed Otero to score, 4-0.
Lia Milsom drew another bases loaded walk which allowed
Sophia Diaz to score before
Katie Rygiel picked up an RBI single up the middle to plate
Hannah Hensler, 6-0. The Engineers induced a strikeout for out number two of the innings before
Kori Gargiulo worked another bases loaded walk to force home Ramapo's seventh run of the inning in Airel.
In the second Maggie Feng posted an RBI double to center field which plated MIT's first run of the game. In the third, Ava Ladd connected on a two-run home run over the left-center field fence which plated Delaney Benevides to add two runs for MIT. Ramapo held the Engineers the remainder of the way to earn a trip to the NCAA Regional Final.
Marissa DiPaolo (15-6) earned the win in relief as she shutout MIT in the final four innings of work while scattering four hits.
Kassy Stefanski worked the first three innings of action for Ramapo in the circle as she surrendered five hits and three runs and one strikeout with no walks. Rygiel and Gargiulo each finished with two hits and one RBI in the game.
Ramapo will now take on #1 Gettysburg College in the NCAA Regional Final at 4pm.
