Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team swept a NJAC double header today against visiting New Jersey City University. The Roadrunners move to 17-7 overall and 3-3 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights drop to 9-14-1 overall and 0-6 in the league.
Game One: Ramapo 20, NJCU 1
Ramapo pounded out 23 hits in the first game including
John Higgins' 100th of his career as the Roadrunners came away with a 20-1 victory. Higgins drove in two runs in the first inning to get the team on the board while
Matt Lalomia singled home Higgins for a 3-0 lead. In the second inning Ramapo added five runs to their lead.
Jesse Swartout plated
Zack Bailey with an RBI single before Higgins drove in two RBI with his 100th career hit, a single to extend the lead, 8-0. Lalomia then belted a triple to left field to earn an RBI, 9-0. Ramapo added six runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a two RBI single to right-center from
Robert Klawans. Heading into the seventh Ramapo led, 17-0. The Roadrunners added two in the seventh and one in the eighth while the Gothic Knights tacked on one run in the top of the eighth.
James Pazdera (4-1) struck out ten, walked just one and surrendered just two hits in six complete innings of work.
Cody Quagliato worked the seventh and eighth innings, he struck out four, walked none and scattered two hits.
Billy Scanlon pitched the ninth with one strikeout, one walk while surrendering no hits.
Game Two: Ramapo 12, NJCU 8
The Roadrunners scored 12 runs on 13 hits in game two as Ramapo starting pitcher
Nick Danbrowney earned the win on the mound. Danbrowney struck out nine including his 193rd of his career which moves him to third all-time in program history.
Ryan Lasko earned the save in relief, his fourth of the season and second in as many days.
Ramapo got on the board in the first inning with three runs.
Zach Novakowski drove in
Zack Bailey with an RBI single before Dominic Ciani scored on an error by NJCU. Higgins then drove in Novakowski with an RBI ground out, 3-0. In the fourth,
Julian Caruso laced a single through the left side of the infield to plate Klawans before Ciani singled to center field to plate Caruso, 6-0. Ramapo added six runs in the sixth inning to take an 11-0 lead. The Gothic Knights scored eight runs in the eighth inning aided by six walks and a hit by pitch while Garrett Allo collected a two RBI double in the inning. Lasko would enter the game with one out to strike out the final two batters to end the inning with a three-run lead, 11-8. The Roadrunners got one run back in the eighth as
Brandon Tauber led off with a double down the left field line and stole third with one out.
Eric Knapp then plated Tauber with an RBI groundout, 12-8.
In the top of the ninth, NJCU's John Abrahamson would reach on an error to lead off the inning before Lasko induced a pop up to short, a fly out to left and a strikeout to end the game.
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 8th when they host Wesleyan University in non-conference action at 4:00pm.
