Pomona, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team won a pair of games on the road at Stockton University. The Roadrunners won game one, 12-9, and game two, 12-6 as they moved to 26-12 overall and 10-8 in the NJAC. The Ospreys dropped to 19-19 overall and 7-11 in the NJAC. With the sweep the Roadrunners earn the #5 seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament and will travel to #2 Rowan University on Thursday, May 1st for a first-round game at 3:30 PM.
Game 1: Ramapo 12, Stockton 9
Ramapo got on the board first in the game when
Zack Bailey drove in
Julian Caruso with an RBI groundout before
Zach Novakowski scored on an Osprey throwing error, 2-0. Stockton would take a 3-2 lead in the second before Ramapo retired the game in the third as Caruso scored on a wild pitch, 3-3. Stockton went up 4-3 in the bottom of the third before
Robert Klawans lifted a sac fly in the fourth to plate
Matt Lalomia to tie the game once again, 4-4.
In the fifth inning, Bailey hit a two-run home run to put the Roadrunners up 6-4. Dominic Ciani plated
Eric Knapp with a sac fly in the sixth before Bailey hit his second home run of the game, a three-run shot to left-center field for a 10-4 lead. The Roadrunners added two unearned runs in the seventh inning to extend the lead, 12-4. In the eighth, Stockton would add four runs on two hits to cut the Ramapo lead just four, 12-8. Ryan Lasko induced a pop fly to center field to end the Osprey threat.
Jack Martin (6-1) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners. He struck out four, walked two and scattered seven hits in seven innings of work. Lasko earned his ninth save of the season for the Roadrunners as he worked the final 1.2 innings of work.
Game 2: Ramapo 12, Stockton 6
Stockton once again took an early lead with four runs after two innings of play. The Roadrunners cut the lead in half with two runs in the third inning.
Jesse Swartout plated the team's first run with an RBI double as Bailey scored before Lalomia plated Novakowski with a sac fly. Stockton added one run in the third before
John Higgins drove in Bailey with a sac fly in the fifth, 3-5. In the sixth inning, Caruso beat out an infield single as Knapp scored before Ciani plated Klawans with a sac fly to tie the game, 5-5. With runners on second and third following a double steal from Caruso and Bailey, Higgins would connect on an inside the park home run to the left field fence, 8-5. Knapp scored on a hard-hit single from Ciani in the seventh before Ciani later scored on an RBI single from Bailey, 11-5. In the eighth, Knapp blasted a triple to center field which allowed Lalomia to score for a 12-5 lead. The Ospreys scored their final run in the eighth inning to cut the Roadrunner lead in half, 12-6.
Nick Danbrowney (6-3) struck out eight, walked three and scattered eight hits in six complete innings of work. Ramapo belted out 18 hits in game two including a 5-5 day from Caruso at the plate. Bailey and Knapp also finished with three hits each and one RBI.
The Roadrunners will return to action on Tuesday, April 29th when they host Union College (NY) in a non-conference game at 3:30pm.
