Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Union College in non-conference action today at Jeff Maund Field, 12-3. The Roadrunners improve to 27-12 overall while the Garnet Chargers drop to 21-16 overall.
Ramapo struck first in the game with two runs in the first inning.
Matt Lalomia drove in
Zach Novakowski and
Zack Bailey with a single through the left side of the infield. Union scored two in the second before Ramapo added one in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth.
Eric Knapp drove in Lalomia with an RBI single in the third for the 3-2 lead before
John Higgins picked up two RBI in the fourth when a hard-hit single up the middle for a 5-2 score. In the fifth, Novakowski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as
Robert Klawans scored before Bailey connected on his fourth home run of the season. The bases were loaded as Bailey drove a pitch over the left field fence which allowed
Melvin Matias,
Julian Caruso and Novakowski to all score, 10-2. Union added their third run of the game in the seventh with a bases loaded walk before the Roadrunners plated two more runs in the eighth inning.
Jesse Swartout led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch. Matias walked earlier in the inning and also later scored on a wild pitch, 12-3.
Dominick Ciani (2-2) earned the win on the mound with two strikeouts while he let up just one hit in three complete innings of relief work. Ciani became the first Roadrunner in program history to record 100 strikeouts on the mound and 100 hits in a career.
Jake Depetris started on the mound where he struck out five and scattered four hits and let up two runs in three innings. Caruso led the Roadrunners at the plate finishing 3-6 with two runs scored while Lalomia finished 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Klawans also finished 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Bailey posted four RBI and three runs scored finishing 1-3.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, May 1st when they travel to Rowan University for a NJAC Tournament First Round Game at 3:30pm.
