Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team came back to defeat the College of New Jersey today, 8-2. The Roadrunners improve to 24-11 overall and 8-7 in the NJAC while the Lions fall to 21-15 overall and 8-7 in the league.
Ramapo jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after two innings of action.
Julian Caruso drove in
Jesse Swartout when he beat out an infield single before the throw was misplayed by the TCNJ defense allowing
Matt Lalomia to score. The Lions tied the game up with two unearned runs in the fourth inning before Ramapo retook the lead in the fifth. Caruso led off the inning with a bunt single before
Zack Bailey laced a double down the left field line to put runners at second and third. Dominic Ciani recorded a sac fly to center field which plated Caruso as Bailey moved to third base. Following the second out of the inning,
John Higgins laced a single to plate Bailey for the 4-2 lead. In the seventh, Bailey doubled with one out before Ciani was intentionally walked. The Lions got the second out of the inning on a fly out before Higgins walked to load the bases. Bailey later scored on a wild pitch before Ciani scored on an infield single from Swartout, 6-2. Swartout and Higgins each stole before Lalomia laced a single through the left side of the infield to plate both runs, 8-2.
Jake Depetris (4-2) struck out six, walked one and surrendered just four hits and two unearned runs in six innings of action.
Ryan Lasko worked the seventh as he struck out one and let up just one hit.
Jack Martin worked a hitless eighth while
Will Paoli started the ninth inning with two strikeouts. Carlo Lalomia, Jr. induced a groundout to end the game as Ramapo earned a key NJAC victory.
Lalomia finished 2-3 with two RBI while Bailey finished 2-4 with two runs scored including his 100th career hit as a Roadrunner. Swartout and Caruso each posted two hits while Swartout added two runs score and one RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon on the road at TCNJ to complete the home-and-home NJAC series. First pitch is set to begin at 3:30pm.
