ROADRUNNERS, OSPREYS SPLIT IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of one-run games against visiting NJAC rival Stockton University. The Ospreys (21-13, 8-6 NJAC) won game one, 1-0, before the Roadrunners (24-7, 8-6 NJAC) won game two, 1-0.

Game 1: Stockton 1, Ramapo 0
In the third inning, Stockton starting pitcher Nerina Tramp singled with one out before being lifted for pinch runner Sienna Smith. Following the second out of the inning Smith stole second and moved to third following an infield error by the Roadrunners to put runners at the corners. Caitlyn Cetrulo stole second as the Roadrunner defense could not make a play as Smith raced home to score an unearned run.

Tramp and the Osprey defense would hold the Roadrunners with no hits through one out in the seventh. Alex Hastings broke up the no-hitter with a hard-hit single through the right-side of the infield to put the game-tying run on base with one out. Tramp would induce back-to-back outs to earn the complete game shutout. She struck out five and walked two as she raised her overall record to 11-5 on the year. Marissa DiPaolo (11-4) struck out a seven, walked just won and scattered five hits in the tough loss in the circle for the Roadrunners.

Game Two: Ramapo 1, Stockton 0
The Roadrunner pitching duo of Kassy Stefanski and Brooke Knight kept the Ospreys off the board as Ramapo earned the 1-0 win in game two. In the bottom of the first inning, Rygiel reached on an error before moving to second on a ground out. Kori Gargiulo then took a 2-2 pitch and laced it up the middle which allowed Rygiel to score the game's only run.

Stockton would put the game-tying run in scoring position in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings while the Roadrunners were able to get out of the jam each time. In the seventh, Knight entered with no outs and a runner on first base before getting the final three outs of the game to earn her fourth save of the season. Stefanski (8-2) who worked into the seventh, struck out two and did not walk a batter while she surrendered just five hits in six complete. Knight also did not allow a hit or walk a batter in the seventh. Gargiulo led the Roadrunners at the plate finishing 2-3 with the game-winning RBI.

Ramapo will return to action on Tuesday, April 22nd when they travel to New Jersey City University for a pair of NJAC games starting at 3:30 PM.
