Union, NJ: The #7/8 Kean University baseball team earned a 4-2 NJAC win over visiting Ramapo College this afternoon. The Cougars move to 27-5 overall and remain undefeated in the conference at 11-0 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 21-8 overall and 5-4 in the NJAC.
After three innings of action the Cougars led 3-0. In the first, CJ Tomalavage doubled down the left field line to plate Kyle Adorno for the game's first run while they added two in the third. Adorno scored on a sac fly before Tyler Stone scored on a Ramapo error. The Roadrunners scored one run in the fifth inning.
Robert Klawans led off with a single, stole second and later scored on
Julian Caruso's sac fly, 1-3. The Cougars added a run in the fifth when Adorno scored for the third time in the game, this time on a sac fly from Dan Reistle. Ramapo plated the second run to cut the Kean lead in half in the top of the ninth. Klawans lifted a sac fly to center field which plated
Jesse Swartout. Swartout led off the inning with a double to left field and moved to third on a flyout.
Noah Rivera (3-1) earned the win in relief as he struck out one, walked none, let up two runs and scattered five Roadrunner hits in four innings of work. Jason Basilicata earned his sixth save of the season with one strikeout in the ninth.
Jake Depetris (3-2) struck out three, walked two and surrendered eight hits and four runs (three earned) in 5.1 innings of work.
Carlo Lalomia Jr. struck out two and let up three hits in the final 2.2 innings of work. Swartout, Klawans and
Eric Knapp all recorded two hits for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo and Kean return to action tomorrow afternoon at Jeff Maund Field to complete the NJAC home-and-home series. First pitch is set for 3:30pm.
