Mahwah, NJ: The #7/8 Kean University baseball team defeated Ramapo College to complete the home-and-home series sweep, 16-1. The Cougars improve to 28-5 overall and 12-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 21-9 overall and 5-5 in the league.
The Cougars scored five runs in the third inning to get on the board, the inning was highlighted by a two-run home from CJ Tomalavage. Kean added one run in the fifth, two in the sixth and seventh innings while they tallied five in the eighth and one in the top of the ninth.
The Roadrunners scored their lone run in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out
Julian Caruso walked and moved to second on a wild pitch before
Chris Dandrea drew a walk.
James Zwolinski bounced into a fielder's choice as Caruso moved to third base. Caruso later scored on a wild pitch to get Ramapo on the board.
Connor Ramsey (3-1) struck out four, walked one and let up just five Ramapo hits in seven complete innings of work. Cal Chase worked the final two innings for the Cougars with one strikeout, two walk, one earned run while he did not give up a hit. Kyle Adorno and Tyler Stone led Kean as they each collected two hits and two RBI.
Dominic Ciani (1-2) took the loss on the mound for the Roadrunners. He struck out two, walked three and let up four hits and six runs (five earned) in 4.1 innings of work.
Jesse Swartout finished 2-2 for Ramapo at the plate with two doubles.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 19th when they host Rutgers-Camden University for a pair of NJAC games. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 11:30 AM. The Roadrunners will honor their senior class in a ceremony following the doubleheader.
