Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team split a non-conference double header this afternoon as they hosted Amherst College. The Roadrunners (4-2 overall) won game one, 9-2, while the Mammoths (2-2) took game two, 11-2.
Game One
Zack Bailey drove in the first run of the game with a sac fly to center field which plated
Jack Tallent for a quick, 1-0 score. In the third inning,
John Higgins drove in
Zach Novakowski with a hard-hit single to center field before Bailey later scored on a wild pitch, 3-0.
Matt Lalomia laced a triple to the left-center field gap which allowed Higgins to come around and score, 4-0. Amherst got on the board with one run in the sixth before
Weston Baronian knocked in
Robert Klawans with a RBI single in the bottom half of the inning, 5-1. In the top of the seventh, Ben Smith drove in Tyler McCord with an RBI single for Amherst. Ramapo added four runs in the bottom half of the seventh. The first run came in when Lalomia drove in Bailey with an RBI single. With the bases loaded and two outs,
Jesse Swartout cleared the bases with a big double to the right-center field gap. Higgins, Lalomia and Klawans each scored to extend the lead, 9-2.
James Pazdera (2-0) did not give up a hit in six innings of action while he surrendered one unearned run. He tallied four strikeouts and five walks.
Ryan Lasko earned the three-inning save as he struck out one, walked none and let up five hits and one run.
Game Two
Amherst took a quick lead in the top of the first inning with an RBI single from Ryan McIntyre before they added three runs in the third inning. Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of the third with a solo home run from Swartout. Each team added one in the seventh before the Mammoths recorded two runs in the eighth and four in the ninth for an 11-2 score. In Ramapo's half of the seventh, Baronian knocked in Swartout with an RBI single to left field.
Nick Danbrowney (1-1) took the loss on the mound for the Roadrunners. He struck out six, walked four and surrendered four hits, four runs and four walks in five innings of action.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, March 11th as they host Stevens University in a non-conference game at 2:30 PM.Â
