RAMAPO OUTLASTS CMS IN NCAA FIRST ROUND DOUBLE OT GAME, 89-84

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tonight in double overtime to advance in the NCAA Tournament, 89-85. The Roadrunners move to 21-7 overall while the Stags wrap up the season at 20-8 overall.

With 4:12 left in the first half the Staggs saw themselves up seven on a jumper from Caelan Jones. Shane Rooney would start a run with a layup before Peter Gorman sank a big three-pointer off a dish from Anthony Corbo. Justin Bladen converted a pair of free throws to tie the game at 27 before Branden Moore hit a big three-pointer to take a 30-27 lead with 34 seconds remaining. The Staggs hit a three-pointer of their own before Gorman put Ramapo up two with a pair of free throws as the Roadrunners led by two at the half, 32-30.
Ramapo scored the first two baskets of the second half on a jumper from Rooney and a layup from Gorman for a 36-30 lead. Corbo put the Roadrunners up four with a three-pointer before CMS went on a mini 5-0 run to take a one-point lead with under 15 to play. Myers would tie the game with a free throw before CMS sank a three-pointer from Jones with 13:24 on the clock. With less than 11 minutes remaining the two teams battled as the score was tied four times. The fourth time was with 1:23 remaining as Myers sank a pair of free throws, one to tie and one to take a one-point lead, 60-59. During the next Stagg possession, the Roadrunners defense forced a CMS turnover giving Ramapo the ball back with 1:08 on the clock. Ramapo got a shot off but could not convert as Jones grabbed the defensive rebound. On the other end of the floor the CMS would go to the line with nine seconds remaining and convert just one free throw to tie the game at 60. Following a timeout, the Roadrunners pushed the ball up the court as Gorman was able to get a good shot off which bounced off the rim as time expired.

Gorman sank a three-pointer to start the first overtime period before Jones matched him down the other end of the court. Myers converted from the line twice between a three-pointer from Neil Owens as Ramapo led, 67-66 with 3:17 on the clock. The one-point game swung each way as each team was converting from the free throw line. With 1:37 remaining, Rooney made a layup before AJ Rohosy converted on a and-one play to tie the game at 71. A big basket from Myers off a pass from Gorman gave Ramapo a two-point lead before Will Householter sank a jumper for CMS with 1:06 remaining. Following a timeout with 21 seconds remaining the Roadrunners could not convert, sending the game into double overtime.
It was Gorman once again with a big steal off the tip in the second overtime before Tim Linton scored two from the line. The two teams traded baskets before Ramapo went up four with 46 seconds on the clock on a pair of free throws from Myers. Householter scored a jumper for CMS before Moore added two from the line with 27 seconds on the clock, 83-79. CMS added two from the line to cut the lead to two with 21 seconds remaining before Myers converted on his free throws, 85-81. CMS converted on 1-2 from the line before Gorman sealed the win from the line for Ramapo. He sank a pair with nine seconds left before Rohosy added two with a dunk. Gorman once again went to the line with 2 seconds remaining to give Ramapo the 89-84 win.
 
In the two overtimes combined the Roadrunners finished 18-18 from the free throw line as they were led by Gorman, the NJAC Player of the Year, who posted 25 points and eight rebounds in the game. Gorman finished 10-12 from the free throw line while Shane Rooney posted a double-double of 12 points and ten rebounds. Rooney finished 5-8 from the field and 2-2 from the line while he added three steals. Myers scored 23 points and finished 11-14 from the line and 6-8 from the field. He also grabbed five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Bladen led the team with four steals while he added four points and two assists.  Branden Moore and Tim Linton came off the bench and each posted ten points.

Ramapo will take on the University of Mary Washington tomorrow at 6:15 PM. Tickets will go on sale at 4:45 PM in the spectator lobby of the Bradley Center, the main entrance to Chuck McBreen Court. The first 100 Ramapo students with a RCNJ ID card will enter FREE.
