Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team won their seventh straight game with a non-conference win over Alvernia University today at Jeff Maund Field, 11-6. The Roadrunners move to 13-4 overall while the Wolves even their record at 10-10 overall.
The Roadrunners saw themselves down one heading into the bottom of the first as they scored three runs for the lead.
Jesse Swartout connected on his X home run of the season, a three-run shot as
Zach Novakowski and
Zack Bailey each scored. A sac fly for Alvernia cut the Ramapo lead to just one before the Roadrunners scored two in the fourth inning.
Matt Lalomia drove in Swartout before
John Higgins laced a double to center field to plate Lalomia, 5-2. In the sixth, the Wolves would tie the game at five scoring one run on a wild pitch along with two unearned runs. In Ramapo's half of the seventh,
Melvin Matias launched his first career home run over the left field fence to take the lead for good, 6-5. Lalomia recorded an RBI single before Swartout stole home for an 8-5 lead. Lalomia later scored on a wild pitch before
Eric Knapp singled home two runs in
Shaun Piotrowski and Higgins, 11-5. Alvernia scored the final run of the game in the ninth as Ramapo came away with the win, 11-6.
Lalomia, Knapp and Matias each finished with two hits while Lalomia and Knapp collected two RBI each. Swartout led the way with three RBI in the game as he finished 1-3 with three runs scored.
Will Paoli (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Roadrunners with one strikeout while he did not give up a hit or run in 1.2 innings of work.
Ramapo opens up NJAC conference play on Saturday, March 30
th when they travel to (RV) Montclair State University.
