SOFTBALL WINS TWO AT THE SPRING GAMES

RYGIEL BREAKS DOUBLES RECORD

Clermont, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team pushed their overall record to 5-0 with two wins today at THE Spring Games. The Roadrunners defeated Coe College (1-11) 8-1 and Plattsburgh State (1-2) 8-0 in five innings.
 
Game One
The Roadrunners scored three runs in the top of the first inning when Avery Kontura drove in Clay'le Correa-Vanness with an RBI single, 1-0. Kori Gargiulo laced a double to right-center to plate Kontura and Rebecca Airel, 3-0. Gargiulo drove in the team's fourth run with a sac fly to left field which allowed Kaite Rygiel to score, 4-0. In the fifth, Emily Ehrmann plated Kontura with an RBI ground out before Ysabellah Otero poked a single to center field as Emily Reilly scored, 6-0. In the bottom half of the inning, Coe scored one run on a triple which allowed Addie Menke to score. In the sixth, Rygiel recorded a double into the right-center field gap which plated Correa-Vanness. Kontura then doubled home Rygiel with the team's eighth run of the game, 8-1.
 
Marissa DiPaolo (2-0) worked a complete game with 10 strikeouts and three walks. She let up just five hits and one run. Kontura finished 3-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored while Correa-Vaness and Rygiel each finished 2-4 with two runs scored.
 
Game Two
Ramapo scored eight runs in the fourth inning. Hannah Hensler broke the 0-0 tie with a two-RBI double which plated Gargiulo and pinch runner Niah Murphy each scored. Otero later scored on an infield throwing error before Reilly connected on a single to left field which plated two RBI, 5-0. Rygiel launched a double to left field gap to pick up two RBI as Reilly and Milsom each scored, 7-0. Airel plated the game's eight run with an RBI ground out as Rygiel scored an unearned run, 8-0.
 
In the bottom of the fifth with one out, Ramapo relief pitcher Brooke Knight induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the game. Kassy Stefanski worked the first three innings for the Roadrunners as she struck out three, walked none and let up just two hits. Knight (1-0) surrendered just two hits in the final two innings of action to earn the win in relief.
 
Rygiel posted her 51st career double in the fourth inning to set the new career record at Ramapo. Rygiel finished game two 2-3 with one run scored and two RBI while Reilly and Hensler also collected two RBI in the game.
 
Ramapo returns to action at THE Spring Games on Wednesday with a 2pm game against the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and a 4:15pm game against Trinity College.
