Mahwah, NJ: The Stockton University women's basketball team used a big fourth quarter to defeat Ramapo College today, 52-49. The Ospreys improve to 11-13 overall and 7-10 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners fall to 3-21 overall and 2-15 in the league.
The game had three lead changes while it was tied ten times. Ramapo outscored Stockton 10-5 in the first quarter while they held a 26-23 lead at halftime. A back and forth third saw both teams add 14 points to their score. Stockton made the most of the fourth quarter and outscored the Roadrunners, 15-9. With 2:16 remaining in the game
Lauren Flatt would score 1-2 from the free throw line to cut the Stockton lead to just one. Stockton would then convert from the free throw line on two separate trips as they pushed their lead to five, 50-45 with 1:43 remaining.
Jocelyn Huancaya made a pair of free throws for Ramapo to cut the lead to three with just over a minute left on the clock. Stockton's Grace Speer sank a pair from the line as they took a 52-47 lead with just over 19 seconds remaining. Down the stretch, Ramapo would score their final two points from the free throw line as Stockton held onto the 52-49 NJAC road win.
Speer led Stockton with 20 points off the bench while she pulled down 11 rebounds. Evangelina Kim posted nine points while Lauren Winant added eight. Imene Faith collected seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. The Ospreys shot 26% (16-60) from the floor, 20% (5-25) from the three-point line and 83% (15-18) from the free throw line.
Flatt led the Roadrunners with 17 points and six rebounds while Huancaya added 13 points and six rebounds.
Alison Ahern led the way grabbing a team high eight rebounds. Ramapo shot 28% (13-46) from the floor, 25% (3-12) from the three-point line and 64% (20-31) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, February 19th when they travel to William Paterson University for the final regular season game at 5:30 PM.
