ROONEY NETS 1,000TH CAREER POINT IN WIN OVER RUTGERS-NEWARK

Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated Rutgers-Newark University in NJAC action, 70-49. The Roadrunners (17-6, 11-5 NJAC) won their third straight and fifth of the last seven while the Scarlet Raiders move to 6-17 overall and 2-14 in the league.
 
Ramapo held a 30-24 lead at halftime as Peter Gorman scored on a driving layup to wrap up the first half. The baskets started a run that moved into the second half as Ramapo opened up a 41-26 lead.  Jordan Myers and Anthony Corbo scored back-to-back baskets for a ten-point lead, 34-24. Levi Holton scored two for Rutgers-Newark before Corbo sparked another 7-0 run with a pair of free throws. The run was capped off with a free throw from Branden Moore as Ramapo led 41-26 with less than 14 minutes on the clock. Holton would score back-to-back baskets for the Scarlet Raiders before converting an and-one play. Shane Rooney scored off an assist from Moore with 13:47 on the clock as Ramapo led 43-31. Following a steal from Enoch Hutchinson, Gorman sank a three-pointer off a dish from Corbo, 46-31. The Roadrunners led by ten before Corbo sank a three-pointer to take a 13-point lead with less than seven remaining, 55-42. That sparked a 14-2 run as Ramapo led 66-45. Corbo and Gorman scored five points each during the run while Linton added four. Each team collected four points down the stretch as Ramapo came away with the 70-49 road victory.
 
Shane Rooney became the 25th Roadrunner in program history to score 1,000-points. Rooney made a jumper early in the first half to hit the mark while he finished with eight points, six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Gorman led Ramapo with 20 points including three made three-pointers while Corbo posted 13 points, two rebounds, three assists and one steal. Myers and Linton each contributed with ten points while Branden Moore recorded six points and a team high eight rebounds. Ramapo tallied 38 points in the paint tonight while they shot 62% (28-45) from the floor, 33% (5-15) from the three-point line and 75% (9-12).
 
The Scarlet Raiders were led by Holton who tallied 21 points while adding ten rebounds and two assists. Travis Miles posted eight points and Donavan Crawford collected seven points and five rebounds. Rutgers-Newark shot 33% (19-56) from the floor and 47% (10-21) from the free throw line.
 
Ramapo returns to action at the Bradley Center on Saturday, Feb. 15th when they host Stockton University in a 1pm game. The Roadrunners will also honor their senior class in a pre-game ceremony for Senior Day.
