Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

AKAR, PALEN LEAD RAMAPO OVER NJCU, 3-0

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's volleyball team swept NJAC rival New Jersey City University tonight at the Bradley Center, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 26-24). The Roadrunners, who won their third straight match, remain undefeated in the NJAC with a 2-0 record while they move to 10-3 overall. The Gothic Knights drop to 10-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The Roadrunners were led by Asya Akar who hit .417 in the match with 11 kills on 24 attempts and just one error. Akar also posted six digs and three blocks (one solo). Valentina Palen led the way with 14 kills while she also collected six digs, one ace and one block. Katie Bishop dished out a team high 28 assists while putting down two key kills in the match along with seven digs and one assisted block. On defense, Emma Garcia collected 17 digs to lead the team while she added two assists. Alyssa Edmond led the team with four aces while the team recorded 10 total blocks in the game.

Ramapo saw themselves up 21-17 in the second set of the match before Palen tallied a kill. Akar then scored the final three points for the Roadrunners with three kills for the 25-21 win. In the third set, neither team could seem to pull away until NJCU found themselves up 21-19. Ramapo would get two points back from NJCU errors before Akar put down a kill for a 21-11 lead. An attack error from NJCU gave Ramapo a 23-21 lead before Kai Fitzpatrick put down a kill for the Gothic Knights, 22-23. A service error from NJCU handed Ramapo a two-point swing, 24-22 before NJCU came back to tie the game at 24. Akar came up big once again with a kill off a dish from Bishop for Ramapo (25-24) before Bishop put down an ace to take the match for the Roadrunners, 26-24.

Fitzpatrick led NJCU with 18 kills while she also posted four aces and eight digs. Diane Pugay posted six kills and five digs while Rae Marrero recorded 27 assists, three aces and nine digs. Elisabeth Brito posted 12 digs to lead the team on defense. NJCU posted 33 kills on 111 attempts and 25 errors.

The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, Oct. 2nd on the road at Rowan University in a NJAC match set for 7pm.
