Camden, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept Rutgers-Camden University in NJAC action, 3-0 in game one and 5-1 in game two. The Roadrunners extend their win streak to 11 games and move to 17-3 overall and 6-0 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raptors drop to 11-13 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
Game 1:
Marissa DiPaolo (6-0) spun a two-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks in six innings in the circle for the Roadrunners.
Brooke Knight picked up her fourth save of the year working the seventh inning with one strikeout. Ramapo finally broke through in the fifth inning when
Katie Rygiel plated
Kori Gargiulo with an RBI single before
Avery Bartolomeo knocked home
Alex Hastings with a single of her own, 2-0. In the seventh, Rygiel belted her first home run of the season over the center field fence to push the score, 3-0 .
Rygiel led the team at the plate finishing 3-4 with two RBI and one run scored while Corra and Bartolomeo each added one hit in the game.
Game 2:
Ramapo got on the board in the first inning when
Avery Kontura knocked in
Mahogany Wheeler with an RBI single, 1-0.
Alex Hastings plated Kontura with an unearned run in the fourth inning with a sac fly to give Ramapo a 2-0 lead before they added three runs in the sixth.
Lia Milsom and Rygiel scored on an
Alexis Corra double to left-center before Corra came around to score on Bartolomeo's double, 5-0. The Scarlet Raptors scored one run in the top of the seventh when Emily Dubiago singled home Aalana Gannon.
Kassy Stefanski (6-2) also spun a two-hitter in the circle for the Roadrunners. She struck out three and walked none in five complete innings of work. Knight worked the final two innings, scattering three hits and surrendering one run.
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 9th when they host Montclair State University in NJAC action at 3:00 PM.
