Mahwah, NJ: The Kean University women's lacrosse team defeated Ramapo College tonight, 16-6. The Cougars improve to 9-7 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now move to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in the NJAC.
The Cougars scored five straight goes in the first quarter before
Erin Smeilus took a pass from
Kaylie Gresek to get Ramapo on the board. Kean scored three more goals to take an 8-1 lead into the second where they posted three more goals for an 11-1 lead. Smeilus scored back-to-back goals for the Roadrunners while the Cougars added one more in the quarter to extend their lead 12-3 at halftime.
Kelly Griffin added one goal in the third and one in the fourth while
Leah Whitney scored an unassisted goal in the fourth. Kean added four more goals, three in the third and one in the fourth to come away with the 16-6 road NJAC win. Nicole Peters made seven saves for Kean in 45 minutes of action in goal while Sophie Jones did not make a save in the final 15 minutes of play.
Alyssa Curto posted eight saves in the game for the Roadrunners. Smeilus led the way with three goals while Griffin tallied two and Whitney one. Gresek and
Bethany Glaser each recorded an assist in the game.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 27th when they travel to Stockton University for the final regular season game of the year at 1:00 PM.
