Union, NJ: The Kean University baseball team scored early and held the lead as they defeated Ramapo College in NJAC action, 5-1. The Cougars move to 21-11 overall, 7-4 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 20-10 overall and 8-3 in the conference.
The Cougars scored two in the first and one in the second before adding their last two runs in the fourth. In the first inning, Tyler Stone recorded an RBI single before Phil Marcantonio lifted a sac fly to left field for a 2-0 score. Christian Pellone drove in one RBI in the second and two in the fourth with a two-RBI double for a 5-0 lead. Ramapo got on the board in the top of the sixth when
Robert Klawans recorded an RBI ground out as
Christian Alonso scored. Alonso led off the inning with a double.
Dominick Ciani (2-2) took the loss on the mound for the Roadrunners as he went five complete innings. Ciani surrendered nine hits and five runs with one strikeout and two walks.
Robert Salvatore (4-1) worked a complete game for the Cougars with two strikeouts and no walks while he let up five hits and one run. Kyle Adorno led both teams with a 4-5 day at the plate with two runs scored while Christian Pellone finished 3-3 with three RBI and one runs scored.
The Roadrunners and Cougars return to action tomorrow afternoon in Mahwah to complete the NJAC home-and-home series. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
