Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College Baseball team used a ten run first inning to defeat Cairn University today in non-conference action, 21-8. The Roadrunners earn their 20th win of the season as they move to 20-9 overall while the Highlanders drop to 17-13 overall.
The Roadrunners batted around in the first inning scoring ten runs.
John Higgins got Ramapo on the board with an RBI single before
Zack Bailey later scored on an infield error. The inning was highlighted by
Matt Lalomia who belted his third homerun of the season, a three-run shot over the left field wall to extend the lead, 5-0.
Robert Klawans (1 RBI), Bailey (2 RBI) and Higgins (1 RBI) each drove in runs during the inning. In the second, Ramapo got RBI singles from
Tyler Guadagno,
Dominick Ciani and Bailey before
Jack Tallent drove in one run with a sac fly. Lalomia then laced a single down the right field line to plate two runs before
Will Egner launched a two-run homerun, the first of his career, for the 18-0 lead.
The Highlanders added two runs in the fourth & fifth, three runs in the sixth and one in the eighth. Ramapo added one in the seventh as
Marc Porpora drove in
Brandon Tauber with a single to left field. In the eight,
TJ Roman scored on a wild pitch before
Chris Dandrea scored on an infield error.
Ramapo collected 23 hits in the game as Bailey finished 3-3 with three runs scored and three RBI while Egner finished 3-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
James Garthaffner started on the mound for the Roadrunners and worked four complete innings with six strikeouts, including his 100th of his career. He surrendered just two hits and four runs.
Will Kennedy (2-0) earned the win in relief with one strikeout while he did not let up a hit in one complete inning of work.
Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, April 18th when they travel to Kean University for a 3:30 PM game.
