Auburndale, FL: The Purchase College baseball team defeated Ramapo College in extra innings, 4-3. The Panthers even their record to 7-7 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 8-7 on the year.
The Panthers scored two in the third and one in the fifth before Ramapo tied the game with three runs in the top of the eighth inning.
TJ Roman plated the first run with an RBI single to score Dominic Ciani before
Zach Novakowski laced a two-out single through the left side of the infield to pick up two RBI and tie the game, 3-3. Ciani led off with a single and moved to second on
Christian Alonso's walk. The bases were loaded with one out as Roman poked a single through the left side of the infield before the Panther's made a pitching change.
Jesse Swartout stole second while Roman followed at second base before Novakowski came up with his two-out two RBI single.
Will Paoli held the Panthers in check in the bottom of the eighth and Ramapo's Bailey led off the top of the ninth with a single to put the go ahead runner on base. Bailey stole second and moved to third on an infield ground out with two outs. Purchase was able to induce an infield ground out to end the threat. Paoli once again held the Panthers in the ninth forcing the game in to extra innings. Ramapo went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 10th before the Panthers reached on an infield error with one out. An infield single moved the game-winning run up 90 feet before a double into the left-center field gap plated the winning run for Purchase, 4-3.
Paoli (0-2) suffered the tough loss for Ramapo as he struck out three and surrendered two hits and one run (unearned) in the final 2.1 innings of action.
James Pazdera started the game on the mound for Ramapo and worked seven innings. He struck out seven, walked three and let up five hits and three runs (two earned).
Justin Dosekoez (3-1) earned the win in relief for Purchase, working the final 2.2 innings with one strikeout and giving up just two hits and no runs. Tristen Abreu and Jemal Betances each had two hits for the Panthers.
Ramapo returns to New Jersey after nine games at the RussMatt Invitational. The Roadrunners have two non-conference games this week on Tuesday against Manhattanville College on the road and home on Wednesday against Vermont State University Castleton. They open up NJAC play on Saturday, March 30th against rival Montclair State University at 11:30 AM.
