RAMAPO SOFTBALL SPLITS A PAIR OF NON-CONFERENCE GAMES

Clermont, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of games today at THE Spring Games. The Roadrunners fell to Millikin College, 6-1, before defeating the University of Wisconsin River Falls in the nightcap, 3-2. Ramapo now stands at 7-3 overall.

Game 1
Millikin scored a quick run in the top of the first inning with an RBI triple to right field to plate the first run of the game. Three straight bunt singles loaded the bases in the third before back-to-back sac flies plated two more runs for a 3-0 lead. Millikin added one more run in the fifth before Ramapo tacked on a run in the sixth. Alexis Corra singled to center to lead off the inning and moved to second on an infield ground out. Avery Bartolomeo then laced a single through the right side of the infield to plate Corra. Millikin would score two unearned runs in the seventh to extend the lead, 6-1. The Roadrunners had runners in scoring position in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings while the Big Blue were able to work out of the jam each time.

Charly Warlow (7-3) worked a complete game for the Big Blue with three strikeouts, one walk and two hit batters. She scattered six hits in seven innings. Millikin collected six hits in the game as Leah Foreman finished 2-2 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Kassy Stefanski (3-2) suffered the loss in the circle for Ramapo. She struck out five, walked three and surrendered five runs (four earned) and six hits in six innings of work. Brooke Knight came in for relief in the seventh facing seven batters with three strikeouts, two walks, one unearned run and did not give up a hit. Ramapo also collected six hits in the game with Rygiel finishing 2-4 for the Roadrunners.

Game 2:
River Falls scored an unearned run in the bottom of the second before the Roadrunners tied the game in the top of the fifth. Kori Gargiulo led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch before advancing to third on a single from Lia Milson. Clay'le  Correa – Vanness put down a bunt single to load the bases before Rygiel lifted a sac fly to center field which allowed Gargiulo to score, 1-1. Corra then lifted a foul ball to left field that was caught which allowed Milsom to score for a 2-1 lead. River Falls tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a sac fly of their own, 2-2.

In the top of the seventh, Gargiulo and Milsom hit back-to-back singles to right field to put runners on first and third before Milsom stole second. Rygiel would plate the eventual game-winning run with a sac fly to center field allowing Gargiulo to touch home plate, 3-2. The Roadrunners faced the minimum batters in the bottom of the seventh. Starting pitcher Marissa DiPaolo induced a fly out to the left-center field gap where Milsom made a great catch for out number one. River Falls worked a walk before DiPaolo got a ground ball to shortstop Rygiel who fielded, stepped on second and fired to first for a 6-3 double play to send the game.

Gargiulo finished 3-3 with two runs scored while Milson finished 2-3 with one run scored. Rygiel plated two RBI to lead the team while Corra knocked in the third. DiPaolo (2-0) went the distance for the Roadrunners as she scattered eight hits and struck out two while walking two. She surrendered two runs (one earned).

Maggie Wallin (4-1) suffered her first loss of the season for UWRF while she collected eight strikeouts, did not walk a batter and let up eight hits and three runs.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow, March 21st when they take on #14 Tufts University at 1:30 PM and Plattsburgh State University at 4:15 PM.
