Auburndale, FL: The Ramapo College baseball team handed New York University their third loss of the season with a 5-4 comeback victory. The Roadrunners move to 7-4 overall while the Violets move to 11-3.
NYU scored two in the bottom of the first before Ramapo took a 4-2 lead with two runs in the second and two in the third.
TJ Roman knocked in the first two runs for Ramapo with a two RBI single to right field which allowed
Zach Novakowski and
Jesse Swartout to score to tie the game, 2-2. With two outs in the third, Swartout laced a single to left field which drove in Novakowski and
Matt Lalomia for a 4-2 lead. NYU tied the game up in the fifth with two runs of their own before Ramapo plated the game-winning run in the top of the ninth. Zach Bailey reached on an error, moved to second on wild pitch before
John Higgins singled to put runners on the corners. Novakowski then lifted a sac fly to center field which allowed Bailey to score, 5-4. The Violets went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth as Ramapo earned the win.
James Garthaffner started the game on the mound for the Roadrunners as he earned a no-decision this afternoon. He struck out seven, walked just one and surrendered nine hits and four runs in 4.2 innings pitched.
Matt Ivanicki worked the next 1.1 innings and only let up one run while
Billy Scanlon worked the next 1.2 innings with four strikeouts, one walk and just one hit.
Gerard Chiricolo (2-1) earned his second win in as many days in relief. He worked the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts while he did not give up a hit. Swartout finished 3-5 with two RBI and one run scored while Novakowski finished 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Ramapo returns to action on Friday, March 22nd when they take on Kalamazoo College at 3:00 PM.
