Auburndale, FL: The University of Wisconsin Stevens Point baseball team came back to defeat Ramapo College late in the game and held onto a 13-9 win. The Pointers move to 1-3 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 3-4 overall.
Ramapo scored five quick runs in the first two innings for a 5-0 lead.
Zack Bailey drove in the Roadrunners first run in the first with a sac fly as
Tyler Guadagno scored. In the second,
Christian Alonso and Bailey hit back-to-back two-run home runs to push the score, 5-0. The Pointers added two in the fifth and four in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead. Ramapo answered back in the bottom of the seventh with three runs. Bailey scored on an infield throwing error before
John Higgins scored on a wild pitch.
Matt Lalomia came across to score on an RBI ground out from
Zach Novakowski for an 8-6 lead. The Pointers then scored two in the 8th inning on two-run home run before they added five in the 5th inning for a 13-8 lead. Ramapo got on back in the ninth before the Pointers ended the threat with a flyout for the final out of the game.
Bryce Her (1-0) earned the win in relief for UWSP as he did not surrender a hit or run.
Will Paoli (0-1) took the loss in relief for Ramapo, he struck out one, walked four and surrendered two hits and five runs. Guadagno and Higgins each finished with two hits for the Roadrunners. Bailey led the way with three RBI while Alonso added two.
Ramapo returns to action on Monday, March 18th when they take on SUNY Cobleskill in a non-conference doubleheader at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex at 12:00 PM.
