Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The College of New Jersey women's basketball team held off Ramapo College for a 74-68 road win today at the Bradley Center. The Lions move to 16-8 overall and 13-4 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners drop to 15-9 overall and 11-6 in the conference.
The game went back and forth including six ties in the third quarter before TCNJ's Izzy Leazier sank a three-pointer with four seconds left to take a four point lead heading into the fourth quarter, 54-50. Nina Branchizio sank back-to-back three-pointers between a jumper from
Karly Wittenbauer and three-pointer from
Jackie Ventricelli as TCNJ led, 65-60 with less than 8:30 on the clock. A mini 6-0 run from Ramapo put them up one with 6:19 left on a basket from Wittenbauer, 61-60. TCNJ went on to score the final 14 points from the free throw line as they held onto the six point lead, 74-68. The Lions shot 31 free throws in the game, converting on 25 while they also recorded nine three-pointers. Nina Branchizio led the way with 14 points and four three-pointers while Julia Setaro added 11 points including three three-pointers. TCNJ shot 37% (20-53) from the field, 40% (9-22) from the three-point line and 80% (25-31) from the free throw line.
Ventricelli led the way for Ramapo with 27 points including four steals and five assists as she finished with three three-pointers. Wittenbauer contributed with 11 points, six rebounds and six assists while
Alison Ahern tallied ten points and
Reilly Sheeley added nine points and three assists. Ramapo shot 47% (28-59) from the field, 29% (5-17) from the three-point line and 87% (7-8) from the free throw line. Ramapo scored 32 points in the paint and 17 points off TCNJ turnovers.
Ramapo returns to action in the final regular season game of the year on Wednesday, February 14th when they travel to William Paterson University for an 6:00 PM game.
