Ewing, NJ: The College of New Jersey swept Ramapo College in the final regular season games of the season as the Lions clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament and the Roadrunners clinched the #3 seed by finishing second and third respectively in the conference standings. The Lions move to 25-9 overall and 15-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 29-10-1 overall and 13-4-1 in the conference.
The top three seeds host the opening round of the NJAC Tournament which begins on Saturday, May 6th. The Roadrunners will host #4 Stockton University at the Athletic Center at 1:00pm. Game 1
Julia Mayernik recorded four of TCNJ's first four runs with RBIs in the first, second and fourth innings as the Lions led, 5-0. Ramapo got on the board in the sixth with
Katie Rygiel laced a double off the wall in right center field which plated
Nicole Cerasi before Rygiel later scored off a TCNJ error, 2-5. In the bottom of the sixth, the Lions would get those two back plus one as Mckayla Yard recorded a sac fly and Mayernik hit a two-run home run for an 8-2 lead.
Elizabeth Goose (12-3) struck out five and scattered four Ramapo hits in the complete game while she surrendered two runs (one earned.
Kassy Stefanski (10-3) suffered the loss in the circle for Ramapo as she struck out five, walked five and surrendered five runs and seven hits in five innings of work.
Mahogany Wheeler worked the sixth as she walked one and let up two hits and three runs (none earned).
Game Two
Mayernik hit back-to-back home runs in the second and third innings as TCNJ took a 3-0 lead. Ramapo came back with one run in the fifth as Rygiel singled home
Anna Messina with a single to right field. TCNJ relief pitcher Gillian Roberts induced a fly out to end the Ramapo threat and kept the Roadrunners off the scoreboard the remainder of the game to secure the 3-1 win.
Roberts earned her fourth save of the season for TCNJ as she struck out one and let up just one hit in 2.1 innings of work. Ally Schlee (2-3) struck out two, walked one and let up three hits and one run to earn the victory.
Marissa DiPaolo (9-3) took the loss in the circle for Ramapo as she gave up two runs on three hits in one complete inning of work. Brook Knight struck out a season and career high ten in relief as she gave up just two hits and one run in five innings of work.
