Cheickna Traore and sophomore
Gbarper Dwah have qualified for the
2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships announced this evening on NCAA.com. The championships are being hosted by St. John Fisher University at the Polisseni Track & Field Complex.
Traore qualified for the championships in three events: 100m, 200m and 400m and will be competing in the 100m and 200m events at Nationals. Traore enters the meet with the NCAA 200m DIII record time of 20.49 which he set earlier this season at the Hurricane Invitational at the University of Miami. His 100m time is currently third in DIII (10.39 seconds) which he set at the NJAC Championships. Traore also qualified for the 400m race with a time of 47.01 seconds, which is 8th this season. He is a 5-time NCAA All-American, a two-time NCAA Indoor Champion (200m & 400m) and a two-time NCAA Outdoor Runner-Up (200m & 400m).
Dwah qualified for the championships in the 100m dash and entered the meet with the 19
th fastest time in the field of 22. She also qualified for the 200m dash at the Championships with a seed time of 24.71 seconds which is also her school record from this season. This will be Dwah's third NCAA Championship after qualifying for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships with the 4x100m relay team and most recently in at the Indoor Championships in the 100m dash. Dwah's seed time is also her school record which she set at the NJAC Outdoor Championships.
The Championships begin next Thursday, May 25
th and will go through Saturday, May 27
th. The trials for the men's 200m will be on Thursday at 7:05pm and the women's 200m will be at 7:20pm while the men's 100m trials will be held on Friday at 6:00pm and the women's trials of the 100m at 6:16pm. The finals of both the 100m and 200m events will be held on Saturday afternoon.
