BASEBALL SPLITS IN NJAC ACTION WITH RUTGERS-CAMDEN

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team split a pair of NJAC games against Rutgers-Camden University today at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners won game one, 9-4, before the Scarlet Raptors held on for a 3-1 win in game two. Ramapo moves to 14-9 overall, 3-3 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors stand at 16-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Game One
Ramapo took a 3-2 lead after three innings of play before they broke open the game in the bottom of the fourth with five runs. Tyler Guadagno drove in Justin Garthaffner and Robert Klawans with a hard hit single through the left side of the infield to extend the lead, 5-2. Matt Lalomia and Will Egner each collected RBI singles for a 7-2 lead before Christian Alonso drew a bases loaded walk to force home Brian Baranok, 8-2. Rutgers-Camden got one back in the fifth before Guadagno plated Klawans in the fifth with an RBI double, 9-3. The Scarlet Raptors added one more run in the sixth on a Roadrunner throwing error. Ramapo reliever James Pazdera held the Scarlet Raptors to just one hit in the final four innings of the game as the Roadrunners earned the 9-3 win.

Nick Danbrowney (4-2) earned the win with five strikeouts in five innings of work while he surrendered three runs, five hits and two walks. Pazdera struck out seven in four innings of work with four walks. Guadagno led the team at the plate with a 4-4 game with three RBI and one run scored. Egner and Garthaffner each collected two hits while Egner drove in two RBI.

Game Two
It was a pitcher's duel in the first seven innings of the game before Rutgers-Camden broke through for three runs in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Frankie Romond and Jack Murphy were both hit by a pitch to force home the first two runs of the game as Rutgers-Camden led, 2-0. Auggie Uzdanovics knocked home the third run with an RBI single before the Roadrunners turned a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.

Ramapo got one run back in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jason Cuba singled before Dominick Ciani laced a double down the left field line which allowed Cuba to advance to third with no outs. Following a pitching change for the Scarlet Raptors, Guadagno lifted an RBI sac fly to center field to plate Cuba to get Ramapo on the board. Following the second out, Matt Lalomia drew a walk to load the bases before Rutgers-Camden induced a flyout to end the inning and hold the 3-1 lead.

The Roadrunners brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but the Scarlet Raptors were able to shut down the Roadrunners. With two outs and TJ Roman on first base following a single, Ciani laced a double down the left field line to put runners on second and third. The Scarlet Raptors would once again get out of the jam as they induced a foul out to first base to end the game.

Ethan Carpenter (4-1) earned the win for Rutgers-Camden on the mound while Gavin Cunard worked the two-inning save. Carpenter struck out two, walked one and scattered six hits in seven innings of work. Cunard, who entered with a 3-0 lead in the middle of the eighth, struck out one, walked one and let up just two hits.

Ramapo collected eight hits in the game as Ciani and Guadagno each posted two for the Roadrunners.

Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 11th when they host Manhattanville College in a non-conference game at 3:30pm.
