Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team posted a non-conference win over Manhattanville College today, 20-6. The Roadrunners improved to 15-9 overall while the Valiants now stand at 9-13 overall.
Ramapo scored three in the first, three in the second and broke open the game with six runs in the third. In the first,
Justin Garthaffner drove in
Matt Lalomia with an RBI double before
Christian Alonso belted a two-run home run inside the foul pole down the left field line for the 3-0 lead. In the second,
Jesse Swartout,
TJ Roman and Garthaffner each collected RBI singles to extend the lead, 6-0. In the third, Swartout started the scoring with a three-run home run to make it 9-0 before Alonso and
Sean Donaghue each singled to drive in three more runs, 12-0.
The Valiants scored five runs in the top of the fifth before Ramapo got one back in the bottom of the inning. Alonso drove in Lalomia with an RBI groundout before Ramapo added six runs in the sixth inning. The inning was highlighted by
Robert Klawans bases loaded triple, which emptied the bases and pushed the score, 17-5. Ramapo scored two more runs in the sixth while Manhattanville added one more in the eighth.
Brandon Shine drove in Klawans in the eighth for Ramapo's final run of the game, 20-6.
Ramapo belted out 20 hits in the game as Roman, Lalomia and Alonso each collected three hits. Alonso led the way with five RBI while Swartout collected four and Klawans three. DJ McGuiness (1-0) earned the win on the mound for Ramapo. He struck out three, walked three and scattered four hits in five innings of work while he surrendered five runs.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, April 13th when they host Kean University in a NJAC game at Jeff Maund Field at 3:30pm.
