Mahwah, NJ: The Montclair State University baseball team earned a 10-6 NJAC victory over Ramapo College today at Jeff Maund Field. The Red Hawks improve to 15-5 overall, 2-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 13-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Ramapo scored one run in the bottom of the first inning when
Jason Cuba raced home on a wild pitch for an early 1-0 lead. Montclair scored three runs in the top of the third before Ramapo got one back in the bottom half of the inning.
Brian Baranok belted his team leading eighth double of the season as Tyler Guadango came around to score to cut the MSU lead to just one. The Red Hawks put up three more runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth for a 9-2 lead. The Roadrunners added one run in the bottom of the sixth when
Matt Lalomia drove in Baranok with a sac fly. MSU got on back in the top of the ninth before Ramapo's
Christian Alonso belted his second home run of the season, a three-run shot over the left field wall, as Matt Carvovillano and
Will Egner also scored. MSU held the Roadrunners the remainder of the inning for the 10-6 road win.
Michael Timberlake (3-0) scattered seven hits over 5.1 innings of work to earn the win on the mound for Montclair. Jack Haveson earned the save with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.
Guadagno and Egner each collected three hits in the game for Ramapo while Cuba, Baranok and Alonso each added two.
Will Kennedy (1-2) suffered the loss in relief for Ramapo. He worked four innings and surrendered eight hits and six runs while he struck out three and walked one.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they host Rutgers-Camden University in a NJAC double header at Jeff Maund Field. The first pitch of game one is set for 11:30am.
