Wayne, NJ: The William Paterson University baseball team earned a 4-2 NJAC conference win over Ramapo College. The Pioneers improve to 23-13 overall and 10-6 in the conference while the Roadrunners now stand at 20-16 overall and 7-9 in the NJAC.
WPU took a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Tyler Ruban knocked in two RBI with a single to left field as Steve Yelin and Dan Carter both scored. They added one run in the third as Ruban once again recorded an RBI single as Carson Weis scored, 3-0.
In the top of the seventh,
Dominick Ciani drove in Ramapo's two runs with a single to center field as
Matt Carovillano and
Jason Cuba both scored, 2-3. In the bottom of the eighth, Austin Jack knocked in an insurance run for WPU for a 4-2 lead. Matt Lawler worked eight innings on the mound for the Pioneers as he struck out five and walked two while he surrendered eight hits and two runs. Dan Castaneda earned his fifth save of the season as he let up just one Roadrunner hit in the bottom of the ninth.
James Pazdera (1-2) took the loss on the mound for the Roadrunners as he worked the first five innings. He struck out four, walked three and surrendered four hits and three runs. Ramapo out hit WPU with nine hits as
Tyler Guadagno, Carovillano and Cuba each collected two hits for the Roadrunners.
Due to the weather forecast this weekend, the Roadrunners NJAC double header at TCNJ has been postponed for Saturday with a make-up date TBD.
