Mahwah, NJ: The William Paterson University baseball team came back to defeat Ramapo College, 15-6. The Pioneers improve to 22-13 overall and 9-6 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 20-15 overall and 7-8 in the conference.
After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first inning, Ramapo scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead.
Justin Garthaffner was hit by a pitch and later scored on a wild pitch before
Brandon Shine plated
Will Egner with an RBI sac fly to right field for the 2-0 score.
In the top of the sixth inning, WPU cut the lead to just one with an RBI single from Tyler Ruban before Steve Yelin tied the game with an RBI single. On the throw back into the infield, Jake Lutz raced home and beat the throw to take the lead for good, 3-2. Carson Weis singled home the fourth run before Yelin later scored on a wild pitch, 5-2. Tyler Guadagno plated Cuba with an RBI sac fly, 3-5. In the seventh inning, WPU brought 13 Pioneers to the plate as they scored seven runs on just two hits as they worked five bases loaded walks in the inning, 12-3. Ramapo added three runs in the bottom half of the seventh as
Matt Lalomia led off with a single and later scored on
Matt Carovillano's deep sac fly to the right-center field gap. Cuba laced an RBI double down the left field line which allowed Garthaffner to score before
Dominick Ciani singled home Cuba, 6-12. WPU added three runs in the top of the eighth to extend their lead, 15-6.
WPU collected 13 hits in the game as Colin Lombardo and Steve Yelin each finished 3-5. Pat Pantoliano (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Pioneers as he let up just one hit and one run in 1.1 innings of work. Ian Metzgner earned the no-decision on the mound in the start with five strikeouts and one walk. He let up five hits including the Roadrunners first two runs of the game.
Ramapo posted ten hits in the game as Ciani, Egner and Cuba recorded two each. Ciani (2-3) took the tough loss for the Roadrunners. He struck out five and walked four while surrendering five hits and three runs in 5.2 innings of work.
The Roadrunners and Pioneers return to action tomorrow afternoon in Wayne, NJ for a NJAC game at 3:30pm.
