Langorne, PA: The Ramapo College baseball team used a late game comeback to win a non-conference road game over Cairn University, 17-13. The Roadrunners improve to 17-12 overall while the Highlanders now stand at 11-16 overall.
In the second inning Ramapo got on the board with two runs before Cairn scored six in the third to take a 6-2 lead. Ramapo added one run in the top of the fourth,
Jesse Swartout lifted a sac fly to center field which plated
Matt Carovillano. The Highlanders then scored one in the bottom of the fourth for a 7-3 lead. Each team scored two runs in the sixth inning before Ramapo added three in the seventh. In the sixth,
Sean Donaghue belted a two-run home run to come within two, 5-7, before Cairn added two of their own for a 9-5 lead. In the seventh,
Tyler Guadagno drove in two RBI with a single to left field before Donaghue worked a bases loaded walk to come within one, 8-9. Cairn tacked on three more in the seventh before Ramapo pushed two more across the plate in the eighth.
Jason Cuba drove in two RBI with a hard hit single up the middle before Carovillano laced a double to left-center field in the top of the ninth to plate two more to tie the game, 12-12.
Justin Garthaffner then gave Ramapo the lead with a single to drive in Carovillano before Garthaffner came home on a
Dominick Ciani double, 14-12.
Brandon Shine plated Ciani with a sac fly and Guadagno added another run with an RBI double, 16-12.
Brian Baranok then plated the Roadrunners final run of the game with an RBI double of his own for the 17-12 lead. Cairn plated one more run in the ninth before Ramapo closed out the game to earn the non-conference victory.
The Roadrunners pounded out 14 hits in the game as Cuba, Guadagno, Baranok, Carovillano and Ciani all recorded two hits.
Matt Ivanicki (2-0) earned the win for Ramapo in relief. He worked the final two innings as he struck out one, walked one and surrendered just three hits and one run scored.
Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, April 20th when they travel to Rutgers-Newark University for a NJAC matchup at 3:30pm.
