Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team earned a NJAC sweep over Rutgers-Camden University this afternoon as the Roadrunners won game one, 7-2, and game two 1-0. The Roadrunners improve to 24-7-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors move to 8-18 overall and 5-5 in the NJAC.
Game One
In the third inning Ramapo got on the board when
Alexis Corra laced a single up the middle to plate
Nicole Cerasi, to put the Roadrunners on the board, 1-0. Rutgers-Camden scored two runs when Zoe Rodriguez hit a two-run home run to left field to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Ramapo answered back with four unearned runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead. With runners on first and second, Cerasi put down a bunt that was misplayed which allowed
Kori Gargiulo and
Anna Messina to score, 3-2.
Katie Rygiel then ripped a double to right-center which plated Cerasi before Corra singled home Rygiel, 5-2. In the sixth, Cerasi scored on a Rygiel single before
Mahogany Wheeler singled home Rygiel to extend the lead, 7-2.
Marissa DiPaolo (8-1) earned the win in the circle for the Roadrunners. She struck out four, walked two and scattered six hits in six innings of work.
Brooke Knight pitched the seventh inning and did not give up a hit while she struck out two.
Game Two
Wheeler started in the circle in game two and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before surrendering a two-out double to the Scarlet Raptors. That would be the only hit she gave up in the game as she struck out two, walked none in the complete game shutout.
Ramapo got the only run they would need in the second inning.
Avery Kontura poked a double down the left field line before moving to third on a pass ball. Messina then drove Kontura home with a single through the right side of the infield for the 1-0 score.
The Roadrunners recorded nine hits in game two as Messina led the way finishing 3-3. Corra finished 2-3 at the plate while four other Roadrunners collected one hit each.
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 18th when they host Rutgers-Newark University at 3pm.
