Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team split a pair of NJAC conference games against #17 Rowan University today at Jeff Maund field. The Profs (21-8, 7-3 NJAC) took game one, 11-5, while the Roadrunners (16-12, 4-6 NJAC) won game two, 9-3.
Game One
Rowan led 8-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning before Ramapo got on the board with two runs.
Christian Alonso drove in two with an RBI single as
Dominick Ciani and
Brian Baranok came around to score. In the sixth,
Justin Garthaffner hit a three-run home run over the left field wall as
Matt Lalomia and
Will Egner also scored, cutting the Prof lead, 8-5. Rowan added two in the eighth and one in the ninth to extend the score, 11-5.
Zach Grace (5-0) started the game for the Profs as he struck out eight, walked six and let up three hits and five earned runs in 5.1 innings of work. Sean Colbert earned the 3.2 inning save as he did not let up a hit and struck out five with no walks.
James Garthaffner (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound for the Roadrunners. He struck out four, walked two and let up five hits and six runs.
Will Kennedy worked the next four innings as he struck out four and surrendered three hits and two runs.
James Pazdera struck out two, walked none and let up four hits and three runs in the final 3.1 innings of work.
Game Two
Ramapo got on the board first in the second game as
Brandon Shine drew a bases loaded walk to force home
Will Egner, 1-0. Rowan tied the game in the third inning with an unearned run before Ramapo scored one in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth for a 6-1 lead. In the third, Baranok drove in
Tyler Guadagno with an RBI single for a 2-1 lead while in the fourth Baranok knocked in two RBI as Ciani and Shine each scored to push the lead, 4-1. In the sixth, Lalomia drove in Ciani and Guadagno with an RBI single up the middle, 6-1. The Profs got two back in the seventh before Ramapo added three in the bottom half of the inning. Shine drove in
Robert Klawans with an RBI groundout before Guadagno drove in Ju. Garthaffner and
Jason Cuba with a hard hit single to left field, 9-3.
Nick Danbrowney (5-2) started on the mound for the Roadrunners and earned the win. He struck out eight, walked three and scattered six hits in seven innings of work while surrendering three runs (one earned).
Will Paoli did not give up a hit in the final two innings of work as he struck out four, including all three in the ninth inning.
Baranok led the Roadrunners at the plate as he finished 2-4 with three RBI in game two. Guadagno and Lalomia each drove in two RBI with one hit each.
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 18th when they travel to Cairn University for a non-conference game at 3:30pm.
