Union, NJ: The Kean University baseball team defeated Ramapo College, 16-2, today in NJAC action. The Cougars move to 18-11 overall and 7-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 15-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
Kean scored five runs in the bottom of the second with five runs before they added one run in the bottom of the fifth. Ramapo got on the board in the top of the sixth before Kean came back with one run in the bottom of the inning.
Justin Garthaffner recorded an RBI single in the sixth as
Matt Lalomia scored. Kean added one run in the bottom of the sixth, four in the seventh and five in the eighth. Ramapo added one in the top of the ninth.
Brandon Shine led off with a double to right field before moving to third base on an infield groundout. Shawn Piotrowski then laced a pinch-hit single down the left field line which allowed Shine to score.
Three Cougars collected three hits each in the camel Nick Houghton, Brett Hillsheimer and Justin Texiera. Nolan Rowan (5-1) struck out three, walked three and scattered six hits in seven complete innings.
Jack Martin (2-2) took the loss on the mound for the Roadrunner. He struck out three, walked two and scattered eight hits in five innings of work.
The Roadrunners return to action when they take on Rowan University on Sunday, April 15
th when they host a NJAC doubleheader at 11:30pm.
