RAMAPO SOFTBALL FALLS TO ST. JOSEPH'S BROOKLN

Mahwah, NJ:  The St. Joseph's University Brooklyn softball team earned a non-conference sweep over Ramapo College this afternoon with scores of 1-0 in game one and 5-3 in game two. The Bears move to 14-8 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 22-7-1 overall.
 
Game One
The Bears used an early run in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. A lead that would hold the remainder of the game as starting pitcher Brooke Horn (7-2) surrendered just four hits in the complete game victory. Leila Heller bounced into an RBI groundout to shortstop in the top of the second which allowed Maeve McKeon to score.
 
The Roadrunners would get the leadoff runner on in the third and sixth innings while the game-tying run stood on second base with two outs before the Bears induced a groundout to preserve the 1-0 shutout victory.
 
Sara Cappetti (0-1) suffered the loss in the circle for the Roadrunners. She struck out two, did not walk a batter and scattered four hits in three complete innings of work. Brooke Knight came in for relief and recorded four innings of no-hit softball with seven strikeouts and no walks.
 
Game Two
The Bears struck first in game two with one run in the second and one run in the fourth. Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with their first run before taking a lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs. After three innings of play and the Bears leading by one, SJCBK took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth with an unearned run. Ramapo would come back to score one in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead in half. Mahogany Wheeler led off with a double before Kori Gargiulo laced a double to center field to earn the RBI. With one out in the fifth, Nicole Cerasi and Katie Rygiel hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game, 2-2. Rygiel moved to third on a pass ball and later scored on a Bear error for a 3-2 lead. In the sixth, SJCBK scored three runs as they took a 5-3 lead.
 
Ramapo put two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth before the Bears induced a lineout and flyout to end the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Alexis Corra singled with two outs before SJCBK recorded the final out of the inning to hold onto the 5-3 victory.
 
Leila Heller (4-2) earned the win in relief for the Bears. She worked the final 2.2 innings as she let up just two hits and no runs.
 
Kassy Stefanski started the game in the circle for the Roadrunners. She worked three innings with one strikeout, one walk as she let up four hits and two runs (none earned). Marissa DiPaolo (7-1) suffered the loss in relief. She struck out one, walked none and surrendered four hits and three runs in the final 2.2 innings of work.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, April 15th when they host Rutgers-Camden University in NJAC action at 1pm.
