SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH STEVENS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team split a non-conference double header against Stevens Institute of Technology this afternoon at the Athletic Center. The Ducks took game one, 4-0, before Ramapo won game two in six innings, 8-0.
 
Game 1
The Ducks shutout Ramapo for the first time this season as they scored one run in the first and three unearned runs in the seventh for the 4-0 road victory. Olivia Warner drove in Rachel Prescott with an RBI double in the first for the early 1-0 lead. The Ducks got out of a game in the fifth as the Roadrunners left three runners stranded.
 
Ela Tozduman (5-3) worked the first 4.1 innings with two strikeouts and no walks while limiting Ramapo to just five hits. Ashley Allen worked the final 2.2 innings with one strikeout and one walk while she surrendered two hits.
 
Mahogany Wheeler (4-2) took the loss in the circle for Ramapo. Wheeler struck out one, walked none and scattered seven hits in 5.1 innings of work while surrendering one run. Marissa DiPaolo pitched the final 1.2 innings as she struck out one, walked none and let up three hits and three runs (zero earned). Katie Rygiel led the team finishing 3-4 at the plate.
 
Game 2
The Roadrunners came back in game two and scored one run in the first, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to earn the 8-0 run-rule victory in six innings. In the bottom of the first, Rygiel led off with a double before moving to third on a deep fly out to center field. Wheeler then drove in Rygiel with an RBI single to center field for the 1-0 lead. It was Rygiel who earned two RBI in the fourth with a hard hit single through the left side of the infield as Nicole Cerasi and Jaclyn Monaco each scored, 3-0. In the fifth inning with the bases loaded, two unearned runs came home on an infield throwing error at home plate. In the sixth, Avery Bartolomeo laced a single to center field before Avery Kontura reached on an infield error which allowed Bartolomeo to advance to third. Kontura stole second before Alex Hastings drove home Bartolomeo with an RBI single, 7-0. Cerasi poked a single down the right field line which allowed Kontura to score with the game-winning run, 8-0.
 
Kassy Stefanski (5-2) earned the win in the circle for Ramapo in the complete game victory. She struck out one, walked four and scattered three hits. Rygiel finished2-4 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored.
 
Kyra Fisher (0-1) took the loss for Stevens as she gave up four runs (one earned) and four hits while she struck out one and walked one in 2.2 innings of work. Erin Kreis worked the final three innings and surrendered seven hits and seven runs (two earned).
 
The Roadrunners return to action when they host Stockton University on Saturday, April 1st at the Athletic Centre for NJAC doubleheader at 1pm.
