BASEBALL SPLITS WITH FREDONIA

Auburndale, FL: The Ramapo College baseball team split a non-conference double header at the RussMatt Invitational against Fredonia. Fredonia came back to defeat the Roadrunners 13-12 in eight innings while Ramapo won 15-5 in game two. The Roadrunners now stand at 7-4 overall while the Devils move to 4-6 overall.
 
Game 1
Ramapo scored five runs in the top of the first inning for a quick lead before Fredonia got on the board with one in the bottom of the inning. The Roadrunners added one in the top of the first while the Devils added three in the second and two in the third to tie the game, 6-6. Ramapo took the lead in the top of the fifth with one run before Fredonia took back the lead with three runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 9-7 lead. The Roadrunners tied the game in the top of the sixth before the Devils scored three more runs in the bottom of the inning for a 12-9 lead. Ramapo would score three runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 12 to force extra innings. Fredonia would scratch out a run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the walk-off victory, 13-12.
 
The first five runs from Ramapo came in the first as Tyler Guadagno blasted a two-run home run before Matt Lalomia and Jason Cuba each recorded RBI doubles. Matt Carvillano then lifted a sac fly to plate Sean Donaghue for the early 5-0 lead. In the second, Guadagno plated Christian Alonso with a RBI sac fly before Alonso plated Carvilliano in the fifth with the same as Ramapo came within one, 7-6. In the sixth, Donaghue belted a two-run home run as Brian Baranok crossed home plate to tie the game, 9-9 before Guadagno hit his second two-run home run of the game in the seventh and Baranok later scored on a balk to tie the game, 12-12. Fredonia would score the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single, 13-12.
 
Baranok finished 5-5 with three runs scored while Guadagno finished 2-4 with five RBI and two runs scored.
 
Game 2
Ramapo's offense continued to put up big numbers in game two as Lalomia blasted a home run to put Ramapo on the board in the bottom of the first, 2-0. In the second inning, Justin Garthaffner hit a solo home run before back-to-back bases loaded walks forced home two more runs for a 5-0 lead. Carovillano then laced a bases clearing triple to plate three more as he later scored on an RBI single from Will Egner, 9-0. Fredonia got on the board in the third with two runs before the Roadrunners added three more in the bottom half of the inning. Ramapo scored their final runs of the game in the fifth to take a 15-3 lead when Joseph Marte hit a bases loaded double as Carovillano, Wgner and Robert Klawans all scored.
 
The Roadrunners belted out 15 hits in game two including six extra base hits. Troy Karaty (2-0) struck out two and let up just four hits and three runs in five innings of work. James Garthaffner struck out three in his season debut in two innings of work and gave up no hits.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon when they play their final game at the RussMatt Invitational against Ohio Northern University at 11:00am.
