Winter Haven, FL: The Ramapo College softball team won another pair of games today at THE Spring Games. The Roadrunners defeated Lake Forest College, 4-1, and shutout Hood College, 4-0. With the sweep Ramapo moves to 8-2 overall.
Game 1
Ramapo's
Mahogany Wheeler and Ailee Pederson of Lake Forest battled until late in the game before either team got on the board. Lake Forest broke through in the bottom of the fifth with one run. Pederson helped her own cause as she poked a single to left field before moving to second on a stolen base with two outs. Swiecki then drove a hard hit ground ball to the shortstop side of second base which allowed Pederson to score for the lead, 1-0.
In the top of the sixth,
Nicole Cerasi walked and
Jaclyn Monaco put down a bunt single to put two runners on with no outs. Following one out,
Katie Rygiel singled to load the bases before
Alexis Corra drove in Cerasi for the game-tying run with an RBI groundout, 1-1. Wheeler then helped her own cause as she drove the first pitch she saw over the center field fence to take a 4-1 lead. Wheeler got the Foresters out in order in the bottom half of the inning to earn the win in the circle for the Roadrunners.
Wheeler (3-1) scattered five hits in the complete game victory while she struck out two and did not walk a batter. Monaco led the team at the plate finishing 2-3 with one run scored.
Game 2
Marisa DiPaolo (2-0) fired a five hit shutout in game two over Hood College (4-6) with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Brooke Knight earned the save as she came in for relief in the seventh with one out. Knight induced two fly ball outs to end the game.
Ramapo scored all the runs they would need in the first inning.
Avery Kontura drew a leadoff walk before Rygiel singles to center field to put runners on first and second with no outs. Corra then drove the ninth pitch of the at-bat up the middle to plate Kontura, 1-0. Both runners moved up on a double steal before Wheeler poked a single through the left side of the infield which allowed both runners to score. Wheeler would come all the way around to third base on the throw home from the outfield defense and later scored on
Anna Messina's fielder's choice, 4-0. The Roadrunners kept Hood off the scoreboard the remainder of the game as they came away with the shutout victory.
Wheeler and Corra led the way finishing 2-3 with one run scored while Wheeler earned two RBI and Corra recorded one.
Ramapo will return to action on Thursday, March 16
th when they take on the University of New England (2pm) and Wheaton College (4:30pm) at the Fortune Road Softball Complex.
