RAMAPO SOFTBALL FALLS TO #11 CASE WESTERN; TOPS SALVE REGINA 8-0

Winter Haven, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of games today at THE Spring Games. The Roadrunners fell 6-4 to #11 ranked Case Western Reserve University before bouncing back with an 8-0 blanking of Salve Regina University.
 
Game 1
Ramapo got on the board in the top of the second inning as Avery Kontura poked a single to center field which allowed Nicole Cerasi and Jaclyn Monaco to score, 2-0. In the bottom half of the second the Spartans scored one run to cut the lead in half before taking a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the third. Ramapo added one run in the fourth on as Katie Rygiel plated Cerasi with a sac fly, 3-5. The Spartans added an insurance run in the fourth before Ramapo's Mahogany Wheeler belted a solo home run to left-center field, 4-6. Case Western would hold the Roadrunners in the final two innings of action to come away with a two run victory, 6-4.
 
Kassy Stefanski (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season in the circle for the Roadrunners. She struck out three, walked two and scattered five hits in three innings of work. Sara Cappetti came in relief for 1/3 of the inning before Brooke Knight worked the final 2.2 innings for the Roadrunners. Knight struck out three and let up just one hit with one walk.
 
Game 2
The Roadrunners scored seven runs in the third inning enroute to their 8-run rule shortened victory over Salve Regina. Monaco walked before Kontura drove a ball up the middle allowing Monaco to advance to third while Kontura took second on the throw in from the outfield. Rygiel then laced a single up the middle to plate Monaco before Alexis Corra drove the first pitch, she saw over the centerfield wall for a three-run home run to push the score to 4-0. Hannah Hensler and Cerasi each drove in RBI with singles as Ramapo led 6-0. Kontura recorded an RBI groundout before Hensler ripped a double and later scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Monaco, 8-0.
 
Wheeler spun a four-hitter over five innings of work with three strikeouts and just one walk. Corra led the way at the plate finishing 2-3 with three RBI while Hensler also posted a 2-3 day at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon as they take on Saint Mary's College (IN) at 2:00pm and Framingham State University at 4:30pm.
