Mahwah, NJ: The Montclair State University men's basketball team earned a NJAC road win over Ramapo College tonight at the Bradley Center, 85-79 in overtime. The Red Hawks move to 19-4 overall, 13-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 9-14 overall and 5-11 in the conference.
The Red Hawks came back from a 19-point deficit at halftime as they outscored the Roadrunners 51-32 in the second half. MSU saw themselves with a, 65-62, lead with 3:27 on the clock before Ramapo went on an 8-0 run to take a five point lead, 70-65 with 1:45 left in the second half.
Anthony Corbo started the run with a jumper before he and
Peter Gorman hit back-to-back three-pointers for the five point lead. Kieran Flanagan sank a pair of free throws and Mike Jackson put back a jumper to come within one with 1:13 on the clock, 69-70.
Elijah Barlow sank a pair of free throws for Ramapo with 13 seconds remaining in the second half as Ramapo led, 72-69. MSU would get a big three with seconds remaining on the clock from Flanagan to tie the game at 72 and force overtime. MSU stretched their lead two three before Gorman hit a big three for Ramapo to tie the game at 75 with 2:16 remaining. Jackson connected on a three-pointer with 1:29 on the clock which would give MSU the lead for good, 80-77. Gorman added two points from the free throw line for Ramapo before Steven Breeman hit MSU's 17th three-pointer of the night for an 83-79 lead with 44 seconds remaining. Breeman wrapped up the game on the free throw line scoring a pair with 14 seconds on the clock as MSU would outlast the Roadrunners, 85-79.
Jackson led the way for MSU with 27 points including a team high six three-pointers while Breeman connected on five three-pointers and finished with 25 points. Keyon Price added 11 points while Kyree Henry tacked on eight. The team shot 42% (27-63) from the field, 36% (17-47) from the three-point line and 82% (14-17) from the free throw line.
For the Roadrunners, Gorman posted 25 points including three three-pointers and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Corbo posted a double double of 14 points and 11 rebounds while
Justin Bladen tacked on 11 points in the game.
Shane Rooney added seven rebounds and nine points while Barlow posted 16 points off the bench for the Roadrunners. Barlow added six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Ramapo shot 45% (28-61) from the field, 29% (7-24) from the three-point line and 88% (16-18) from the free throw line. The Roadrunner defense forced 15 MSU turnovers in the game which led to 23 points for Ramapo.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, February 11th when they travel to NJAC rival the College of New Jersey for a 3pm game.
