Long Island, NY: The Ramapo College baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader in their season opener this afternoon on the road at St. Joseph's College Long Island. The Roadrunners took game one, 7-3, while the Golden Eagles won game two, 8-0.

In game one, the Roadrunners were down 2-0 heading into the fifth inning before
Jason Cuba drove a triple to right-center field which brought home two RBI to tie the game up. Cuba later scored the go ahead run on an error, 3-2. The Golden Eagles got one back in the bottom of the fifth before Ramapo added three more in the sixth and one in the seventh. In the top of the sixth,
Brian Baranok hit a solo home run before Matt Carvillano belted a two-run home run to give Ramapo a 6-3 lead.
Tyler Guadagno later drove home Cuba with the team's final run in the seventh with an RBI single, 7-3.

Nick Danbrowney earned the win on the mound as he struck out ten and walked two in 5.2 innings of work. Danbrowney let up eight hits and surrendered three runs.
Will Paoli earned the save in the season opener; in 1.1 innings of work he did not let up a hit or a walk and struck out one. Cuba, Guadagno, and Baranok all led the team with two hits each while Cuba and Carovillano each collected two RBI in the game.

In game two, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two complete innings. An infield error and a double led to the team's first run before a single and a bases loaded walk allowed two more to score, 3-0. One more would come around to score in the bottom of the first before a solo home run from Ryan Decoursey pushed the score to 6-0 in the bottom of the second. James Maggio drove home the seventh run with an RBI single to right field before they added one more run in the fifth inning as St. Joseph's Long Island led, 8-0.

The Golden Eagles held the Roadrunners to just four hits in the seven inning game. Anthony Cinquemani (1-0) started the game and struck out two and gave up just one hit in three innings of work while Jack Kelly worked the next three innings. He struck out three, walked to and surrendered just two hits. Luck Gacovino pitched the seventh inning and surrendered one hit and two walks and got out of a bases loaded jam to complete the shutout victory.

For the Roadrunners,
John Higgins (0-1) started on the mound as he struck out two, walked two and surrendered seven runs (two earned).
Jack Martin let up just one run and three hits in the next three innings before
Will Kennedy pitched the final inning for the Roadrunners. He struck out two and did not surrender a run in his first outing. Â

Ramapo will return to action on Friday, March 3rd when they travel to Farmingdale State College for a single non-conference game at 3:30 PM. Â
