Daytona Beach, FL: The Ramapo College men's basketball team earned a 65-63 win over the College of St. Scholastica in their first game of the Florida Sunshine Shootout at the Ocean Center. The Roadrunners win their fourth straight game and improve to 10-2 overall while the Saints now stand at 1-8 overall.
Ramapo opened up the game on a 10-0 run in the first 4:22 minutes of the first half.
Shane Rooney scored the first six points while
Peter Gorman scored the final four to open up the game. Ramapo led the entire game and held their biggest lead in the first half when
Jordan Myers scored a bucket for a 30-14 lead with 4:12 remaining. The Saints went on a 10-2 run of their own to close the gap heading into halftime with the Roadrunners leading, 32-24.
In the first six minutes of action of the second half the Saints cut the lead to three twice before Ramapo answered with a basket of their own including a three-pointer from
Elijah Barlow off an assist from
Justin Bladen with 13:41 (44-38) on the clock. With 11:20 on the clock, St. Scholastica cut the lead to just one possession on a layup from Luke Raymond, 42-44. Ramapo came back with a 15-2 run to extend their lead, 59-44, with less than seven minutes remaining. Following a pair of made free throws from
Shane Rooney, the Roadrunners led by ten with less than four minutes on the clock. The Saints made one last push with a 10-2 run to come within two. The run was capped off with a three-pointer from Kevin Thomas with just 48 seconds remaining. The Saints held Ramapo scoreless before calling a timeout to set up their offense. Coming out of the timeout
Tyrell Murchison picked off a Saints pass for the steal to close out the game as Ramapo held on for the 65-63 win.
Rooney led the way with 19 points and nine rebounds while Myers added 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
Peter Gorman added ten points, three steals and three rebounds. Ramapo shot 49% (26-53) from the field, 12% (1-8) from the three-point line and 50% (12-24) from the free throw line. The Roadrunners scored 48 points in the paint and 13 second chance points.
For the Saints, Andre Crockett Jr. led the team with 12 points while Noah Winesett added 11. Kevin Thomas posted nine points and seven rebounds while Aaron Keykal led the way with nine rebounds and added five points. The team shot 42% (26-61) from the field, 25% (7-28) from the three-point line and 36% (4-11) from the three-point line.
Ramapo returns to action at the Florida Sunshine Shootout tomorrow evening as they take on Immaculata University (7-4 overall) at 4:00 PM.
